Esthetician Program Overview

Our 600-hour Esthetician Program offers in-depth training in skincare, combining technical instruction with practical experience to prepare you for a successful career as a licensed esthetician.

The curriculum for students enrolled in a Esthetician program shall consist of six hundred (600) clock hours of technical instruction and practical operations covering all practices of a Esthetician pursuant to Section 7354 of the Cosmetology Act. For the purpose of this section, technical instruction shall mean instruction by demonstration, lecture, classroom participation, or examination. Instruction will be taught in English. Practical operation shall mean the actual performance by the student of a complete service on another person. Such technical instruction and practical operations shall include:

Curriculum Breakdown

  1. Facials – 110 Hours

    • Manual, electrical, and chemical facials, including cleansing, scientific manipulations, packs, and masks.
    • Use of electrical modalities and dermal lights for skin care purposes.
    • Emphasis on removing only the non-living, uppermost layers of facial skin (epidermis) for beautification.
  2. Health and Safety – 85 Hours

    • Laws and regulations: Understanding the Barbering and Cosmetology Act and Board Rules.
    • Health and safety/hazardous substances: Training in chemicals and health in establishments, material safety data sheets, protection from hazardous chemicals, and preventing chemical injuries.
    • Disinfection and sanitation: Proper procedures to protect the health and safety of consumers and technicians.
    • Anatomy and physiology: Human anatomy and physiology related to skin care.
  3. Hair Removal and Makeup – 110 Hours

    • Eyebrow beautification: Shaping and hair removal techniques, including waxing, tweezing, and manual or electrical depilatories.
    • Makeup: Skin analysis, basic and corrective application, and application of false eyelashes.
  4. Additional Training – 15 Hours

    • Salon management: Retail sales, record keeping, client service record cards, basic tax information for booth renters, independent contractors, employees, and employers.
    • Communication skills: Professional ethics, decorum, résumé writing, and job interviewing techniques.

Instructional Method

Our experienced instructors utilize a blend of on-site education, hands-on practice, textbooks, videos, study guides, and lectures. Distance learning components may include Zoom sessions, Milady MindTap, and pre-recorded classes.

Esthetician Performance Objective

  • Acquire knowledge of California’s laws and regulations governing cosmetology establishments.
  • Master sanitation and sterilization practices related to all phases of skin care.
  • Understand general theory in esthetics, including anatomy, physiology, and chemistry.
  • Develop business management techniques applicable to the esthetics industry.

State Licensing Requirements

  • Be at least 17 years of age.
  • Have completed the 10th grade or its equivalent.
  • Have committed no acts or crimes constituting grounds for denial of licensure under Section 480 of the Business and Professions Code.
  • Complete the required hours and state-mandated curriculum.

Graduation Requirements

To graduate, students must complete the required 600 clock hours, fulfill all theory hours and practical operations, and maintain a minimum grade average of 70%. Upon completion, a diploma certifying graduation is awarded.

Manicuring Program Duration

25 Hours/Week: Approximately 24 weeks (5.39 months)

30 Hours/Week: Approximately 20 weeks (4.62 months)

40 Hours/Week: Approximately 15 weeks (3.46 months)

Grading System

Students are evaluated regularly on theory, practical, and clinical work. Evaluations are measured on a standard percentile basis and equated to letter grades. A minimum average of 70% is required to maintain satisfactory academic status.

  • Academic (Theory) Grading:

    • 90% – 100%: A (Excellent)
    • 80% – 89%: B (Good)
    • 70% – 79%: C (Satisfactory)
    • 0% – 69%: F (Fail)
  • Practical Work Grading:

    • 70-100 Points: Satisfactory
    • 0-69 Points: Unsatisfactory
