Manicuring Program Overview
Our 400-hour Manicuring Program offers comprehensive training in nail care, combining technical instruction with practical experience to prepare you for a successful career as a professional manicurist.
The curriculum for students enrolled in the Manicuring program shall consist of four hundred (400) clock hours of technical instruction and practical operations covering all practices of a Manicuring. Technical instruction means instruction by demonstration, lecture, classroom participation, or examination. Instruction will be taught in English. Practical operation means the actual performance by the student of a complete service on another person. The first 200 hours shall be devoted to all phases of manicuring and pedicuring mandated by the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. The remaining 200 hours will emphasize on, but not limited to the following: Additional disinfection and sanitation, nail wraps and repair, nail art, and advance techniques in liquid, gel and powder application. Such technical instruction and practical operations shall include:

Manicures and Pedicures – 175 Hours
- Water and oil manicures, hand and arm massage.
- Pedicures with foot and ankle massage.
- Artificial nail applications, including liquid, gel, powder brush-ons, nail tips, wraps, and repairs.

Nail Art
- Creative techniques in nail design to enhance client satisfaction.

Advanced Techniques
- Proficiency in advanced liquid, gel, and powder applications.

Laws and Regulations
- Study of the Barbering and Cosmetology Act and Board Rules and Regulations.

Health and Safety – 100 Hours
- Nail care chemistry, hazardous substances, ergonomics.
- Prevention of communicable diseases, including HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B.

Disinfection and Sanitation – 100 Hours
- Proper disinfection and sanitation procedures to protect client and technician health.

Bacteriology, Anatomy, and Physiology
- Understanding the structure and function of the skin and nails.
Additional Training – 25 Hours
- Salon management, retail sales, and record-keeping.
- Client service, communication skills, résumé writing, and job interviewing techniques.
Instructional Method
Our experienced instructors utilize a blend of on-site education, hands-on practice, textbooks, videos, study guides, and lectures. Distance learning components may include Zoom sessions, Milady MindTap, and pre-recorded classes.
Manicuring Performance Objective
Acquire knowledge of California’s laws and regulations governing cosmetology establishments.
Master sanitation and sterilization practices related to all phases of nail care.
Understand general theory in manicuring, including anatomy, physiology, and chemistry.
Develop business management techniques applicable to the nail care industry.
State Licensing Requirements
Be at least 17 years of age.
Have completed the 10th grade or its equivalent.
Have committed no acts or crimes constituting grounds for denial of licensure under Section 480 of the Business and Professions Code.
Complete the required hours and state-mandated curriculum.

Graduation Requirements
To graduate, students must complete the required 400 clock hours, fulfill all theory hours and practical operations, and maintain a minimum grade average of 70%. Upon completion, a diploma certifying graduation is awarded.
Manicuring Program Duration
25 Hours/Week: Approximately 16 weeks (3.70 months)
30 Hours/Week: Approximately 14 weeks (3.22 months)
40 Hours/Week: Approximately 10 weeks (2.30 months)

Grading System
Students are evaluated regularly on theory, practical, and clinical work. Evaluations are measured on a standard percentile basis and equated to letter grades. A minimum average of 70% is required to maintain satisfactory academic status.

90% – 100%: A (Excellent)
80% – 89%: B (Good)
70% – 79%: C (Satisfactory)
0% – 69%: F (Fail)
Practical Work Grading:
70-100 Points: Satisfactory
0-69 Points: Unsatisfactory
