Teacher Training Program

The Barber Crossover Program is a specialized 200-hour course designed for licensed cosmetologists who want to expand their skill set and transition into barbering. This program focuses on advanced barbering techniques, practical operations, and California state barbering requirements to help you meet licensing standards and enhance your career opportunities.

The curriculum for students enrolled in a Barber Crossover program for cosmetologists shall consist of two hundred (200) clock hours of technical instruction and practical operations covering those barber practices that are not a part of the required training or practice of a cosmetologist. Technical instruction means instruction by demonstration, lecture, classroom participation, or examination. Practical operation means the actual performance by the student of a complete service on another person or on a mannequin.

    Learn the Barbering and Cosmetology Act and the Board’s Rules and Regulations.

  • Instructional Techniques (30 Hours)
    Master effective teaching methods, including lectures, demonstrations, and interactive communication.

  • Organization Techniques (30 Hours + 50 Practical Operations)
    Learn the 4-step teaching method, develop performance objectives, and create structured lesson plans.

  • Lesson Planning (40 Hours + 50 Practical Operations)
    Plan and organize lessons, using outlines and visual aids to ensure effective instruction.

  • Evaluation Techniques (10 Hours + 50 Practical Operations)
    Understand test creation, scoring, and grading to measure student progress effectively.

  • Classroom and Technical Instruction (20 Hours + 140 Practical Operations)
    Conduct practical demonstrations and teach cosmetology techniques to groups of students.

  • Supervising and Training Students (20 Hours + 140 Practical Operations)
    Oversee and guide students practicing cosmetology skills in a classroom or lab setting.

    • 80% – 89%: B (Good)
    • 70% – 79%: C (Satisfactory)
    • 0% – 69%: F (Fail)
  • Practical Work Grading:

    • 70-100 Points: Satisfactory
    • 0-69 Points: Unsatisfactory
